Selection Wizard
The Selection Wizard offers the opportunity to
- save the current selection of cells
- load a previously saved selection
or to
- delete a selection from the list of all saved selections.
You can use this tool to load a selection of cells in order to enter data within, i.e. in case data has to be entered repetitively, i.e. monthly, into specific cells. You also could use it to temporarilly save a specific selection of cells when preparing a new spreadsheet, i.e. in order to experiment with formats for the selection.
Save Selection
Use this to save the current selection of cells
To add the filename of the active workbook to the description of the selection to save, activate Add Filename to Description. This will write the filename in front of the entered description.
If the checkbox will be deactivated afterwards, as many characters as the filename is long, will be removed from the entered description.
Note:
If in the meantime the filename or parts of the filename have been removed manually, parts of the description will be removed.
Note:
As from XLplus Ver.: 2.50 on you can save selections consisting of any number of areas. For previous versions of XLplus the selection to save had to consist of up to 30 single areas only. (A selection containing single areas consists of several non contigeous cells, i.e. A1:A5;C1:C5;E1)
Tip:
In case you have to create several portions of a selection you can speed up the overall progress with deactivating the checkbox Save Permanently. This will only temporarily apply changes to the database containing informations about all selections in the list. When creating the last selection, make sure that this checkbox is activated to save XLplus and the list permanently.
Tip:
XLplus Add-On Basic contains a handy tool helping to select multiple non contigeous cells. See
Deselect Active Cell for details.

Details
The dialog offers the above described options and will always perform the currently active setting - regardless of which Page on the dialog is currently selected. If a new Page is selected, but no settings have been made on this Page, the program will ask you, if you wish to perform the action associated with the setting made on the previous Page in case you run OK. Choose Cancel there to go back to the Wizard and to check your settings first.
Example:
If a listbox entry on Page Load is selected all other settings will be disabled. If afterwards Page Delete or Page Save is activated, the settings made on Page Load are still active until a new setting has been set, i.e. a listbox entry on Page Delete has been selected or a name to save the selection under has been entered on Page Save.
If you run OK, the program will ask whether to perform the action Load or to Cancel. If you select OK, the selection will be loaded.
If no setting at all has been selected, the OK Button will be disabled.
Tips
- You can minimize the dialog and add more cells to the current selection.
- You can perform bigger or complex selections in single steps and save those steps.
- Use Deselect Actice Cell in order to remove a cell from the selection added accidently. This tool is part of XLplus Add-On: Add-On Basic.
