XLplus Add-On: Sort Sheets

Excel does not have a Build-In function to sort worksheets which sometimes is a required function. You can now use Sort Sheets to conveniently sort all or a part of the sheets of a given workbook.

Tip: Use the lower right corner of the Dialog in order to resize it.

You can sort a selected number of worksheets at a time or alternatively rearrange the position of a single worksheet.

Select the workbook which sheets you want to sort. Next specify the sheets to sort. You can sort All Worksheets or just the Selected Worksheets. Use [Shift] to select contigeous worksheets.

Note: Even if you can select non contigeous worksheets in the list, only the first contigeous area of sheets will be sorted. To sort non contigeous areas of sheets you have to sort them one after another.

Next specify the sort direction and the type of sort.

• Alphabetic: this sorts by alphabet, i.e. you will receive Table1, Table11, Table2 ...
• Date - this sorts (if possible) by date value, i.e. you receive 01.01.2005, 02.01.2005, 02.02.2005 ...
• Number - this sorts (if possible) by numeric values, i.e. 1,2,3, ..., 9,10,11 ...

Note: In case a sort cannot be applied, i.e. because a sheetname selected is alphanumeric and you sorted by Number, the sort will stop.

Note: The tool will ignore all Charts and Excel 4 macro sheets.

In case to move a single worksheet to a different position of all worksheets first activate option Selected Sheets and then simply select the worksheet of interest and use the up/down arrows to move it. The new position will be applied immediately so when you are done you can Cancel the dialog.

Versions:

Ver.: 2.0.20 and Ver.: 3.0.20 allow manual sorting.
